Understanding the local elections for French citizens abroad
What is it about?
Consular elections are the local elections for French citizens established outside France. They allow you to elect your Councillors for French Citizens Abroad (CFEs) and your consular delegates.
Who can vote?
All French citizens aged 18 and over, registered on a consular electoral list, can vote. Registration must be completed before 24 April 2026.
When?
The elections will take place at the end of May 2026:
- Online voting: from 22 to 27 May 2026
- Polling station voting: 31 May 2026
What will you be voting for?
You will elect:
- 9 councillors for the United Kingdom constituency
- 12 consular delegates attached to the London consulate
These elected officials will serve a 6-year term and represent you on the Consular Council.

Why vote?
Your consular councillors are your local representatives. They handle your daily concerns: education, social protection, administrative services, community life. By voting, you choose who will defend your interests for the next 6 years.
