EU Settlement Status valid after naturalisation
✅ Good news for some Franco-British dual nationals. If you obtained British citizenship but previously had a status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS), you can now enter the United Kingdom with your French passport (or other European passport) without needing an ETA.
The British government confirmed that EUSS holders who subsequently became British citizens retain their settlement rights. This means that even though you are now British, your European identity continues to grant you facilitated entry rights.
Why does this matter?
Many French citizens who became British after Brexit were unsure about their status. This clarification removes an important ambiguity and simplifies travel for dual nationals.
What to do?
Make sure your EUSS status is still active in the system. You can check your status online via the government website. If you encounter any difficulties, our consular councillors can help guide you.
